My name is Morgan Johnson and I am currently a Junior at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. I'm originally from Kaukauna, Wisconsin; just a half-hour away from Green Bay. Art has always been part of my life. Throughout high school it was more of a hobby, then it started to grow more when I realized that there was such a thing as a Graphic Design Degree. Art then started to mean a lot more to me. It became a part of who I am as a person, instead of just something I did in my free time.
During high school, I was very involved. I played two sports, softball and basketball. I was a member of the band, and participated in the pep, jazz, and marching bands. I was also part of the Graphic Arts Club and National Honor Society. During the summer, I participated on a travel softball team for 10+ years. The summer after my junior year of high school, I started volunteering for the Miracle League, a baseball league for kids with disabilities, as well as Camp Hope, a two week summer camp, also for kids with disabilities. Both of these experiences have taught me the value of friendship and how important it is to believe in yourself and others. Because of my involvement throughout high school and during my summers, I was a recipient of the Herb Kohl Excellence Scholarship, an award given to highly involved, well-rounded students at the end of their senior year.
My involvement throughout high school is what prepared me for college. I was able to take the time management skills I learned in high school and utilize them when it came to finishing projects and studying for classes. It also helped me stay on track when I was recruited to play on the UWSP Softball Team. Thus far, I have managed to accomplish quite a bit, including a recent induction into the UWSP 2017 Student Juried Art Show last December as well as selling my first piece at UWSP Arts Bash 2016. As an aspiring Graphic Designer, I cannot wait to complete the next stages and classes of my art education.
