Who am I?
I’m Candie Schaefer, a 5th year at UWSP
(ugh...), with a
major in Psychology
(Human Services) and minors in Sociology and Art History. (No, I don't know what I am going to do
with a minor in Art History, but I like it. I could only come up with Art Therapy.)
I have ventured with previous majors before my love of psychology came along,
including Art (1 year), Interior Architecture (2 years), Political Science (6
months), Public Administration (6 months), and Sociology (which turned into a
Minor). I pride myself on being true to who I am and changing my major when I was
entering my Senior year at UWSP. But among other things, I’m originally from
On August 12th, 2006, I got married to the lovely guy below.

This picture was
taken from a few summers ago, when I was a bridesmaid…haha but no more!
The past few years I have spent working the Res Halls as an ARC (Academic Resource Coordinator), but we all need to get out of there sometime! All my love goes out to Thomson Hall!
Right Now. (Jobs, activities, and academics)
I currently work for the UWSP Psychology Department, and UWSP Tutoring and Learning Center. I working as one of the biofeedback and videotaping technicians for the psychology practicum classes, in addition to being an office assistant. I'm very excited about the new things I will learn from this opportunity! :) At the tutoring center, I am the group tutor for a large introductory psychology class, and the large section of developmental psychology, and I also tutor some students one-on-one in psychology. Hopefully this will increase my chances of getting a teaching assistantship in grad school.I am also a research assistant to Dr. Nemeth who is currently working on some studies with the "misinformation effect", and Dr. Hekmat who does research on assessing the use of fantasies with pain. I am excited to also be heading up the Psychology Peer Mentoring Program this year, where we pair advanced psychology students with freshmen and sophomores for advice and other fun activities. In addition, So yes, I am quite the busy girl.
I am also in the process of completeing an internship at Ben Franklin Junior High School, working with the guidance and counseling center every Monday. Other than that, I still have regular classes to complete, from psychology, sociology, and English. Only one semester left after the fall!
The Future?
I am planning on attending graduate school after graduating from UWSP in May of 2007. I am looking to enter a career in clinical or counseling psychology, the only real difference being the environment and groups of people I would be working with. I have a list of schools (Currently at 12) that I will be applying for and hoping to be accepted to next year, and at this point in time its changing every week (Typical Candie). My basic question is whether to complete a masters first or to apply to Ph.D. programs right away. Who knows? Fortunately, I still have time.
